Tegan began at the age of four on a friend’s Shetland pony. Growing up, Tegan had weekly lessons at local riding schools as well as working on the yards over weekends to learn more about day-to-day care of the horses. In 2018, Tegan got her first loan pony, a newly backed 4 year old Arab X gelding ‘Humpty’. Having come for lessons at Collective Equestrian on a friend’s pony since early 2017, Tegan began regular training on Humpty with goals of eventing; this is where she discovered her love for dressage.
Whilst training a young horse Tegan grew to learn how important dressage was as a foundation for each discipline. Aboard Humpty, in early 2019, Tegan became a part of Collective TeamQuest and qualified for the TeamQuest regionals.
Tegan knew she wanted to further her dressage knowledge, from the autumn of 2019 she started loaning ‘Lexi’, Elizabeth Allen’s schoolmaster horse. In early 2020 Tegan started her British dressage career at Novice level aboard Lexi.
During Covid lockdown in 2020, Tegan started as Alex’s groom, gaining opportunities to train and ride some of his horses, increasing her knowledge and a further love for dressage. It was at this time that she had also persuaded her parents to buy her first horse, a rather large unbacked 3 year old Maritima ‘Lilo’. In early 2021 Tegan, with Alex’s support and training, backed and started to produce Lilo as a dressage horse. In May 2021 Tegan and Lilo headed to their first show together at Somerford Park Premier League to compete in the British Dressage Young Horse 4 year old class where they won with a promising score of 78.6%.
Over the next 3 years Tegan and Lilo competed in the 5 year old classes at the Premier League shows, they qualified for regionals at Elementary Gold in 2022 and then stepped up to Advanced Medium level in 2023. At the end of 2024 Tegan and Lilo contested their first Advanced test to gain a score of 74.5%. Tegan hopes to compete at Small Tour level with Lilo during the 2025 season with further aims of competing together at U25 level.
Tegan enjoys training riders who have passion to grow their knowledge and understanding of dressage and how they can improve their horses and riding ability in the best way possible.
